Itinerary and notes

Station 1: Pura Jagatnatha (The Great Temple)

Your journey of discovery begins at this majestic state temple in the center of the city. Dedicated to the supreme god Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the temple impresses with its stunning architecture made of white coral stone and an intricately decorated Padmasana (throne). A place of peace and prayer amidst the vibrant city life.

Station 2: The Bali Museum (Museum Negeri Provinsi Bali)

Just a few steps away, you will dive deep into the past. Since the museum is located right next to the temple, you can simply walk over. The building was constructed in traditional Balinese palace style and houses an invaluable collection. You will stroll through various pavilions and green courtyards, which also offer great photo opportunities. Your guide will show you the highlights: from prehistoric finds and tools to ancient weapons, ceremonial masks, and exquisite textiles that tell the story of the island's cultural evolution.

Station 3: Kumbasari Market (Pasar Kumbasari)

Next, the tour continues to Kumbasari Market. Now it gets lively! You will dive into the colorful and bustling activity of Denpasar's largest traditional market. Spanning multiple floors, you will find a kaleidoscope of colors and scents: stroll past mountains of chilies, fragrant cloves, exotic fruits (such as mangosteens or durian), and colorful offering baskets. On the upper floor, you can browse for handmade crafts, traditional clothing (sarongs), and souvenirs. A feast for the senses and the perfect place to try out bargaining!

Station 4: Bajra Sandhi Monument

To conclude, you will visit the Bajra Sandhi Monument, a monumental landmark of Denpasar in the Renon district. This gigantic structure, modeled after the shape of a Balinese priest's bell (bajra), honors the struggle of the Balinese people against colonial rule. Inside, detailed dioramas tell the moving history of the island.

Useful Tips for This Excursion

Dress Code: Since you will be visiting an active temple, shoulders and knees must be covered. A sarong can often be rented on-site, but it doesn't hurt to bring your own light scarf, long pants, or a long skirt.

Footwear: You will be doing quite a bit of walking (especially in the museum and at the market). Comfortable shoes that are easy to slip off are ideal, as you must remove your shoes in certain temple areas.

Cash: For the market and small snacks, it is recommended to have Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in small denominations. Market vendors are often reluctant to break large bills.
